SearchStax Studio has two features related to Site Search Recommendations — Auto-Suggest and Related Searches — to improve the search experience by making it easier for users to quickly find the right search term or by augmenting search results with other search terms.

  • Auto-Suggest – enables real-time suggestions while the search user types in keywords
  • Related Searches – provides related searches in addition to the standard search results — using artificial intelligence based on search terms provided by other users or defined through the Studio application

SearchStax Studio’s Auto-Suggest feature enables real-time suggestions while the search user types in keywords.

When the auto-suggest feature is enabled, the Studio builds a Solr index of the keywords that users have typed in as queries. The system prompts the user with words that have leading-character matches to the user’s current input.

At the same time, the system also performs a “fuzzy” match comparison between the input and previous keywords, testing whether the new input might be misspelled.

The controls on this tab set the number of suggestions to offer and how many characters the user must type before suggestions begin to appear.

Note the checkbox in the upper left that enables or disables the entire feature.

Suggestions are based on Search History with the option to manually Add individual search words. The Search History method removes lower Click through searches, and additionally weighs the matches based on their search count so that the more popular search words show up higher in the suggestions.

You can specify how many suggestions to show the user, and how many keystrokes to require before suggestions begin to appear. (One keystroke overloads the system with useless queries. Two is more efficient. Three is even better.)

Note that there is a Search feature that filters the list.

The Add Word and Upload features let you add words that the users might never have thought to try. When you upload a file, it appends words to the previous list. Duplicate entries are ignored.

The Download feature produces only the words that were added manually, not the database.

The Save Draft button persists your changes to the list. The Publish button makes the changes visible to end users.

Studio > Recommendations > Related Searches

The SearchStax Studio’s Related Searches feature lets us define a search phrase (such as “Sitecore”) as being related to one or more other potential search phrases.

The Studio also augments the Related Searches from search terms learned from Analytics data using Artificial Intelligence. For the AI augmented related searches, Analytics should be connected with your Search page and there should be enough searches with clicks available.

On the Search Preview page, when related searches are turned on, additional phrases are offered to the search user at the bottom of the list of result-items (default position). If the user clicks one of the phrases, it becomes the focus of the next search.

To set up Related Searches, use the left-side navigation menu to find Studio > Recommendations > Related Searches.

Note the checkbox in the upper left that enables or disables the entire list of Related Searches.

To define a Related Search, enter the principal word (or phrase) into the Word field. The related search phrases may be entered as a comma-separated list in the Related To field. Click the (+) button to add the new entry to the list of Related Searches.

You can download the Related Searches as a .CSV file using the download button (). You can upload Related Searches (as .CSV or .TXT) using the same format. The primary search is followed by => and a comma-separated list of secondary searches.

Each search may have up to ten related searches. If you try to add more, the system will ignore them. Note that you can delete the entry from the table and rewrite it at any time.

Note the Search feature, which lets you filter the list.

Use the checkboxes and the trashcan icon () to select and delete Related Searches.

Remember that the Save Draft button persists your changes, and the Publish button makes them visible to search users.
